It is our great honor to have Mr. Arnold Chang, a literati ink artist, to introduce the origin and history of the literati landscape painting tradition. Mr. Chang will demonstrate the process of creating painting and use his artworks as examples to help you understand what literati landscape painting is and how this painting style has evolved since the 17th century. In his presentation, he will talk about how traditional Chinese ink painting has been transformed under the influence of western and contemporary art.

Mr. Chang first became interested in Chinese painting at the age of 10, when he saw an exhibition of the great Chinese painter, Zhang Daqian. Mr. Chang received a BA in Chinese Language and East Asian Studies from the University of Colorado, during which time he went to Taiwan to study Chinese calligraphy and ink painting.  He later received a master's degree in Asian Studies from UC Berkeley.  

Forsaking his academic career for that of  connoiseur and artist, he studied with the collector, connoisseur, and painter C. C. Wang in New York. He worked as VP at Sotheby's, where he was in charge of auctions of Chinese paintings worldwide. After leaving Sotheby's he worked at  Kaikodo, a leading dealer of Asian art in New York. Now he is a full time artist. His paintings are collected by major museums and private collectors and he is well recognized as a scholar, a connoisseur, and an artist.

NYTFA is a nonprofit professional organization. Our members are professionals in finance and other related fields who are located in the greater New York area and share a common interest in the welfare of Taiwan.
